Pola majored in English at the University of the Philippines Diliman and, as a nod to Legally Blonde, pursued graduate studies in Business Communications at Harvard, earning a 3.78 GPA (in the words of Elle Woods, "What, like it’s hard?").
Pola brings newsroom, agency and corporate experience from 14 years in the industry and nearly four at Fortune 500 firm AECOM. As a senior proposal editor, she has supported bids that has won new business with a cumulative worth of upwards of $500M.
Prior to this, she honed her reporting and research skills at economic newspaper BusinessWorld where she rose through the ranks from staff writer to assistant editor to founding editor of SparkUp, the paper's successor targeting the new generation of startup founders and entrepreneurs. Due to the instability of the print industry, she transferred to an award-winning digital marketing agency in Singapore and honed her skills in social media advertising and search engine optimization (SEO).
Her combined experience in traditional and new media proved useful in 2022 when she launched Miss Chief Editor: an Instagram page promoting media literacy and practical writing skills using real-world examples and pop culture references to help Filipinos break the glass ceiling.

Miss Chief Editor is an independent new media initiative. To support this advocacy, you may donate, request an interview, propose a partnership or send a speakership invitation for your event.

Pola's work centers on how discourse creates or maintains power in society. She conducts writing workshops and media trainings, advises multinational organizations on their communication strategies, as well as delivers talks on how to be more critical in the face of massive disinformation.
Her goal for Miss Chief Editor is to make its values and advocacies more mainstream so that more Filipinos, as well as people from similarly historically colonized or impoverished countries, can use media and language to uplift and empower women and other marginalized sectors of society.
